The 2021 Annual Report is published in accordance with Section 68(1) of the Bank of Botswana Act (CAP 55:01). The Report provides a summary of the operations and audited financial statements of the Bank for the year ended December 31, 2021. The report also covers the Bank’s key functions and responsibilities and outlines the accountability framework for its performance. These functions and responsibilities can be grouped into eleven broad categories, namely: conduct of monetary policy; implementation of the exchange rate policy; maintenance of financial stability; currency design and management; regulation and supervision of banks; oversight of the payments systems; foreign exchange reserves management; provision of banking and settlement services to Government, commercial banks and selected public institutions; economic research; policy advice to Government; and production and publication of macroeconomic statistics including balance of payments, financial and monetary statistics.
