Standard Poor’s (S P) has released Botswana’s sovereign credit rating for 2009. The long term sovereign credit rating has been lowered from A to A-, while the outlook has moved from ‘negative’ to ‘stable’ in recognition of the country’s track record of prudent economic management. The foreign currency rating has been lowered from ‘A/A-1’ to ‘A-/A-2’ while the local currency has been moved from ‘A+/A-1’ to ‘A/A-1’. The lower ratings reflect the global economic slowdown and the resulting negative impact on the medium term fiscal outlook for Botswana. For more information see press release
