Over the one-month period to January 2026, the Pula depreciated by 2.1 percent against the South African rand. In contrast, the domestic currency appreciated by 1.6 percent against the IMF Special Drawing Rights (SDR). During the review period, the Pula appreciated by 2.5 percent against the US dollar, 1.9 percent against the Chinese renminbi, 0.9 percent against the euro, 0.7 percent against the Japanese yen and 0.3 percent against the against the British pound.
Meanwhile, over the twelve-month period to January 2026, the Pula depreciated by 7 percent against the South African rand and appreciated by 2.8 percent against the SDR. Against SDR constituent currencies, the Pula appreciated by 8.8 percent against the US dollar, 8.2 percent against the Japanese yen and 3.5 percent Chinese renminbi. However, it depreciated by 5.1 percent against the euro and 1.7 percent against the British pound.
